Engines
How the Auto, Onset, Neural, Hybrid and KNN engines differ, which songs suit each, and how to compare them with multi-engine mode.
TaikoForge has four ways to chart a song, plus Auto, which picks one for you. If unsure, use Auto.
| Engine | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Auto (recommended) | Routes the song to one of the engines below based on rhythmic complexity and note density | Most songs |
| Onset | Hears every hit straight from the audio, without being locked to a grid | Tempo changes, 24th notes, busy rhythms |
| Neural | Generates beat by beat; patterns read most like a human-made chart | Steady tempo, a "hand-made" feel |
| Hybrid | Uses a Neural draft to pick similar patterns from human-made charts | Balance of accuracy and playability |
| KNN | Stitches together the closest-matching patterns from human-made charts | Familiar, classic patterns |
Multi-engine mode
Tick "Multi-engine mode" and the engine cards become multi-select. The song is charted once per selected engine in a single job (1 song of credit per engine). Afterwards you can switch between versions on the play page and keep the one you like. Not available for batch uploads.
Track separation
Choosing "Drums" or "Vocals" isolates that track with AI first and always uses the Onset engine. See Charting options.
Tips
- Songs with tempo changes: use Onset, or turn on "Detect tempo changes" under advanced parameters.
- Not happy with the result? Try another engine first ("Make another" brings back the same audio and settings), then fine-tune in the chart editor.
